Sedgwick Chudleigh Supports Bermuda Education Network’s Law Springboard

July 2012

As part of the firm’s support of Bermuda Education Network’s first Law Springboard program, special counsel Alex Potts hosted a mock trial for the students. Potts established, designed and ran the mock trial, at which he also served as the magistrate. The Law Springboard was a one-week program in July designed to give the seven students selected insight into Bermuda’s legal profession.

Potts coached the students and introduced them to principles of evidence and legal reasoning, which included analysis of the burden and standard of proof, the hearsay rule, and the weight to be placed on circumstantial and inconsistent evidence. He was also a part of the Law Springboard planning committee, during which he helped plan and organize the program.

Sedgwick Chudleigh also presented an Advocacy Award in its name to one of the students.

The Bermuda Education Network is a charity that provides support to public school students by giving them access to summer programs and learning opportunities.
