Los Angeles Office Secures Defense Verdict in Legal Malpractice Action
January 2006
Following 13 days of trial, Los Angeles partner Randy Miller obtained a jury defense verdict in a legal malpractice action. The suit arose from a complex landlord-tenant dispute that resulted in the lawyer's client -- a commercial shopping mall owner/landlord -- being found liable for over $600,000 in damages. In the subsequent legal malpractice action, plaintiff demanded compensatory damages of over $2.7 million and punitive damages. The Sedgwick trial team eliminated plaintiff's lost business and punitive damage claims by non-suit during trial, and the jury found lack of causation on the rest. Associates Bob Silver and Bijan Esfandiari also assisted the trial team.
