Press Release - The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Elects Sedgwick Partner to Fellowship

July 2007

Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold LLP announced that The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators elected Chicago office Managing Partner Jim Wangelin to Fellowship. As a Fellow, he is now entitled to use the letters FCIArb, which signifies his qualifications to the international legal community. This distinction is only awarded to experienced practitioners who have successfully completed the Institute's Fellowship Assessment process, which includes four rigorous modules, a written examination and a peer interview.

"The growing importance of arbitration has significantly changed the legal landscape," said Wangelin. "With this method of dispute resolution, qualified arbitrators with subject matter expertise can offer their clients an attractive alternative to litigation, potentially saving clients time, money and aggravation," said Wangelin.

"Jim Wangelin exemplifies Sedgwick's commitment to continuous professional advancement," said Firm Chairman Kevin Dunne.

Over the course of his career, Wangelin has conducted dozens of trials and arbitrations in numerous jurisdictions. He concentrates his practice on international arbitration and claims management, with emphasis on insurance and reinsurance coverage disputes on behalf of insurers and carriers in the U.S., Bermuda and Europe. In addition to his fellowship with the Institute, he also serves as a director of the Chicago International Dispute Resolution Association, and is a member of ARIAS, the American and Illinois State Bar Associations and the Defense Research Institute. His Illinois peers named him as a Leading Lawyer in the fields of ADR and Insurance/Reinsurance. He earned his A.B. and J.D. from the University of Michigan.
