Press Release - Sedgwick Partner Assumes Presidency of The Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel

August 2007

Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold announced that Dallas Partner Wayne B. Mason assumed the role as president of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC) for the 2007-2008 term. In this role, Mason will serve as a member of the board of directors for both the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and the Lawyers for Civil Justice (LCJ). Founded in 1936, the FDCC is an international organization composed of 1,400 attorneys who specialize in civil litigation defense, general counsel, risk managers and insurance claims executives.

As president, Mason plans to maintain the FDCC's level of excellence by implementing two key initiatives.  "First, I want to create a Federation Leadership Institute to provide leadership training to top law firm attorneys and corporate in-house counsel," explained Mason. "The program will provide a total package of leadership including how to lead from a firm, organization, and community perspective."

The second initiative is the creation of a white paper to discuss practical solutions for training trial lawyers.  "Many consider the lack of young lawyers' trial experience as an irresolvable conundrum," said Mason.  "I want to study this issue - in partnership with corporate America."

Mason has spent over 20 years defending national and international clients in diverse litigation matters in the U.S. and abroad.  His straightforward approach has built successful client relationships.  He has significant experience in class action litigation and other complex litigation matters, and defends many commercial catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. Mason obtained his B.S., cum laude, from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and earned his J.D. from Samford University, Cumberland School of Law IN Birmingham, Alabama.
