In the UK, Libel Tourist Attractions May Be Closing
San Francisco Daily Journal
March 2010
By:
Timothy Kevane,
John Stephens
In this article, authors John Stephens (SF) and Timothy Kevane (NY) give an overview of the landscape of libel law in the United Kingdom as well as a summary of the report “Press Standards, Privacy and Libel,” issued in February 2010 by Britain’s House of Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee – which in 2008 launched a broad inquiry into the state of press freedom, self-regulation and defamation litigation in Britain. The authors of this article also highlight the recommendations made in the report, and what these may mean for the future of libel law in the U.K.
