Mike Pipkin to Lead the ABA TIPS Fidelity and Surety Law Committee

On May 12, 2012, it was announced that Dallas partner, Mike Pipkin, will be the 2014-2015 Chair of the Fidelity & Surety Law Committee (FSLC), one of the general committees of the Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) of the American Bar Association.  He will be Chair Elect Presumptive of the FSLC beginning August 1, 2012, Chair Elect starting August 1, 2013 and Chair from August 1, 2014 through July 31, 2015. 
 
The FSLC focuses on the law of suretyship and construction, as well as fidelity and forgery insurance, and is widely considered to be the preeminent legal organization serving these industries. The committee includes ABA member lawyers who who practice in the area of fidelity, surety, and construction law, as well as ABA associate members, including non-lawyer accountants, engineers, and consultants who work with the lawyers and client to respond to claims. The FSLC sponsors several educational seminars each year, including its Annual CLE MidWinter Meeting, generally held during the latter part of January in either New York City or San Francisco.
 
As chair, Pipkin will be responsible for leading the FSLC in its business activities, setting the tone and themes for the educational seminars conducted by the FSLC, and selecting program chairs and speakers for all of the educational seminars and MidWinter Meeting.  Pipkin co-chaired the FSLC’s 2009 MidWinter Meeting and will co-chair the FSLC’s MidWinter Meeting construction program in 2014.  He is the founding chair of the Construction Law Subdivision, formed to serve as a breeding ground for construction programming for the FSLC at its MidWinter Meetings, and will continue to serve as co-chair for at least one more year. Pipkin is the second Sedgwick attorney to lead the FSLC. Sedgwick Los Angeles partner Marilyn Klinger is a former chair.
