Press Release - Sedgwick Bolsters Construction Practices Group
November 2007
Sedgwick announced its Los Angeles office has brought on construction attorney Matthew Hicks as special counsel. The addition of Hicks, formerly of the Los Angeles firm Bergman & Dacey, signifies Sedgwick's continued expansion of services for the California construction industry.
"Sedgwick will continue to provide our clients with talented attorneys such as Matthew Hicks, capable of understanding the construction industry's unique legal and business challenges," said Marilyn Klinger, co-chair of the firm's Construction Practices Group. "Sedgwick has the resources to handle incredibly sophisticated construction matters, and a national team for whom client service is paramount," said Hicks. "The decision to join the firm was easy."
Hicks has handled dozens of mediations, arbitrations, and informal settlement negotiations on behalf of public entities, private owners, general contractors, subcontractors and sureties on public and private works projects. He advises clients on a myriad of related issues, including preventative risk analysis, breach of contract, indemnity provisions, payment and performance bonds, wage claims and related labor issues, the False Claims Act and construction defects. He received his J.D. from Loyola Law School and his B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles.
For more than a quarter century, Sedgwick's Construction Practices Group, comprised of nationally recognized lawyers, has represented the entire spectrum of participants in construction projects and has handled construction claims of every type. Today, our clients include public and private owners; developers of commercial properties; design professionals; general contractors, subcontractors and their sureties; equipment and material suppliers; and developers of residential projects.
