Heather McCloskey and Paul Menes Join Sedgwick Los Angeles as Special Counsel

Sedgwick welcomes Heather McCloskey and Paul Menes as special counsel in our Los Angeles office. McCloskey will join our Intellectual Property Practice Group. McCloskey, an experienced litigator in California’s state and federal courts, will also join Sedgwick’s Technology Practice Group. Menes, who has more than 25 years experience representing an array of entertainment and digital space clients in addition to his two decades of Intellectual Property experience, will join the firm’s Media, Entertainment and Sports Law Practice Group.

“We are thrilled to bring Heather and Paul on board,” said Sedgwick’s Los Angeles managing partner Michael Davisson. “They are both exceptional lawyers who each bring a tremendous amount of experience. We expect Heather’s excellence in the courtroom and Paul’s transactional expertise in entertainment and media to each have a significant impact on their respective practice areas.”

McCloskey’s practice focuses on copyright, trademark and general business litigation. She has represented her clients in various patent litigation, Internet and technology-related litigation, misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition and entertainment contract litigation matters. In addition to her impressive litigation track record, McCloskey counsels clients on ways to avoid litigation and protect their business and intellectual property interests. She is experienced in the preparation, negotiation and enforcement of license agreements and other contracts.

McCloskey, a psychology graduate from Bard College, earned her J.D. from University of San Diego Law School in 1997. Since then, she has practiced at a variety of law firms throughout Southern California. Most recently, McCloskey was the Intellectual Property department chair and a litigation partner at a boutique firm in Beverley Hills.

Menes focuses his practice on advising entertainment and media clients in North America, Japan and Europe in global entertainment business and related issues involving the music, mobile, wireless, online and video industries, as well as counseling North American television, radio, copyright and trademark clients. He advocates and provides “business affairs” representation, advising and counseling clients as early as possible in their overall projects and business endeavors to assist them in reaching their desired goals in a cost-effective fashion, while identifying and avoiding problems and issues that could make accomplishing those goals less likely and more expensive. He has worked with an array of entertainment clients and has a unique expertise in the digital space, including the representation of the public company claiming to be the number one mobile content distribution company in the world.
After receiving his B.A. from UCLA in 1976, Menes earned his J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law. Before joining Sedgwick, Menes co-chaired a firm’s Entertainment and Media Group and founded a successful 22 year-old entertainment firm. Both firms are located in Los Angeles.
