Roberta J. Benson Joins Sedgwick Austin as Partner

Veteran Counselor Bolsters the Firm’s Robust International Insurance Practice

AUSTIN, AUGUST 03, 2009 – Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold LLP is pleased to announce that Roberta J. Benson has joined the firm’s Austin office as a partner. Benson, who will be a part of our Insurance Practices Division, brings extensive experience in representing professional liability insurers in both coverage litigation, claim defense and claim management. She represents domestic, London and Swiss insurers in federal and state courts throughout the United States and in arbitrations.

In addition to professional liability claims, Benson's broad-based litigation experience includes first-party defense of disability, life and property insurers in coverage and extracontractual claims as well as in class actions and multidistrict litigation.

Benson is admitted to practice in Texas (1993) and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Ms. Benson received her J.D. (1992) from George Washington University Law School, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif. She holds an M.S. (1987) in Systems Management from the University of Southern California and a B.S. (1978), summa cum laude, in Computer Science from Syracuse University.
