Special Counsel Robert Shaffer Joins Sedgwick Los Angeles
Veteran counselor becomes a member of the firm’s Construction Practices Group
Los Angeles, CA, October 12, 2009 – Sedgwick, Detert, Moran and Arnold, LLP is pleased to announce that Robert H. Shaffer has joined the firm’s Construction Practices Group as special counsel in our Los Angeles office. Shaffer has more than 15 years of experience representing public and private owners, developers, contractors, subcontractors, design professionals and construction managers. His practice focuses on litigation, arbitration and mediation of construction claims, delay and other schedule-related claims, construction liens, bond claims and other contract disputes; drafting and negotiating complex construction and design contracts, including design-build, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM); and construction-related insurance coverage.

Shaffer’s vast experience includes representation of multiple subcontractors in extra work, defective specification and delay and inefficiency claims arising out of seismic retrofit of San Francisco-Oakland Bay, Richmond-San Rafael and Golden Gate Bridges. He has also represented general contractors, geotechnical contractors, engineers, developers, and municipalities in numerous matters involving delay, disruption, and extra work claims.

Robert Shaffer earned his B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Pepperdine University (1988) and was awarded his J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law (1991). He is a member of the California Bar (1991), as well as the American Bar Association, Forum on the Construction Industry, Steering Committee and the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Real Property Section, Construction Law Subsection. Shaffer lectures frequently on many topics relating to the design and construction industries including BIM and IPD.
