Experienced Counselor Brings Additional Strength to the Firm’s Robust International Insurance/Reinsurance Practices
JANUARY 2009– Sedgwick, Detert, Moran and Arnold LLP announced that Jolyon Patten has joined the firm’s Insurance Practices group as a partner in our London office. As a former Lloyd’s broker, one of Legal 500’s “Leading Individuals”, and with an international client base that spans London, Europe and the United States, Patten’s talents are well-respected throughout the insurance/reinsurance industry.

Patten focuses his practice on insurance and reinsurance issues involving all classes of business. He represents clients in areas such as property and casualty; marine and nonmarine; facultative and treaty business, including whole account; accident and health; workers compensation; insurance/reinsurance brokers claims; product liability; energy; marine; financial reinsurance; and alternative risk transfer. Patten also handles delegated underwriting issues, including binding authorities, via brokers and/or MGAs and lineslips.

Patten, who was named to Legal 500’s prestigious 2008 “Leading Individuals” list for his successes in insurance/reinsurance litigation, has handled numerous cases before the Commercial Court in London and in arbitrations in England, Europe and United States. He is also frequently called upon to be a lecturer at industry conferences and client seminars and is a prolific writer on insurance/reinsurance issues.Patten completed his legal education at the Inns of Court School of Law in London (1989). He also earned a diploma in Law from the University of Westminster, London (1988), and an MA degree from Oxford University (1983), with honours.
