Our coverage advice, and our approach to resolution of coverage disputes, is pragmatic. If a dispute arises between the insurer and policyholder, we strive to find a correct, efficient, and fair solution without litigation, if possible. When coverage litigation is necessary, we vigorously represent our client's interests. Our attorneys try and arbitrate coverage matters in state and federal courts throughout the United States and in various international tribunals.
Sedgwick’s casualty coverage practice is part of the firm’s Insurance Practices Group , a firmwide multidisciplinary collective of practice groups serving all facets of the insurance industry. Our clients cover the spectrum of the insurance industry and include some of the largest casualty insurers and reinsurers in the business.
Areas of Expertise
Sedgwick has particular expertise in responding to natural disasters or other cataclysmic events affecting numerous insureds. For example, Sedgwick has a firmwide task force devoted to serving insurance industry clients in responding to Hurricane Katrina. A major insurer appointed Sedgwick national coordinating counsel for all of its Hurricane Katrina claims, and the firm has been retained by several other insurance clients to assist on Hurricane Katrina matters. Sedgwick has developed a comprehensive plan for dealing with Hurricane Katrina claims, and has established relationships with various experts and consultants whose assistance will likely be necessary to successfully resolve the claims.
