Commercial arbitration is a particular feature of our services. Our lawyers participate in arbitrations governed by the English Arbitration Act, the United Nations Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration, the Bermuda International Conciliation and Arbitration Act, the American Arbitration Association Rules, and the International Chamber of Commerce Rules. Our lawyers also represent parties engaged in arbitrations under the International Chamber of Commerce Rules and various ad hoc and local arbitration rules, such as the ARIAS U.K. Rules and the Geneva Chamber of Commerce Rules.
Sedgwick represents insurers in London arbitrations on coverage questions involving millions of dollars. The issues vary widely, but include questions of misrepresentation in the formation of contracts and the interpretation of complex contract language. Other arbitrations handled by our attorneys focus on insurance/reinsurance issues and concern all major classes of business, including general liability, professional indemnity, D&O, brokers' E&O, products liability, property, environmental liability, marine, cargo, satellites, personal accident and U.S. workers compensation reinsurance.
In conducting arbitrations in London and Bermuda in particular, Sedgwick provides clients with the benefit of first-hand knowledge of those jurisdictions. Members of our team are admitted to practice in Bermuda, England & Wales, and Zurich, in addition to the United States. The group authors "International Commercial Arbitration - A Roadmap for In-House Counsel," a Sedgwick-produced handbook that provides an overview of the international arbitration process.
Sedgwick's international disputes practice is part of the firm's Insurance Practices Group, a firmwide multidisciplinary collective of practice groups serving all facets of the insurance industry. Our clients cover the spectrum of the insurance industry and include some of the largest insurers and reinsurers in the business.
