Sedgwick’s property coverage attorneys have significant experience in all aspects of primary and excess commercial property insurance. Our attorneys advise on many complex first-party policy coverage issues important to the insurance industry, including claims arising from such diverse perils as fire and terrorism, earthquakes, hurricanes and other natural disasters, water damage and mold. We interpret primary and excess and first-party policies of all types, including manuscript policies. Our attorneys litigate property insurance and reinsurance cases in court and in arbitration tribunals internationally.
We help clients investigate and resolve property damage, business income, contingent business income, and extra expense claims. Our lawyers take examinations under oath and conduct fraud and arson investigations. We also have significant experience in forensic accounting issues.
Sedgwick’s property insurance attorneys handle disputes stemming from major hurricanes, floods, and other catastrophes in various international locations. Sedgwick has particular expertise in responding to natural disasters and other cataclysmic events affecting numerous insureds. For example, following Hurricane Katrina, a major insurer appointed Sedgwick national coordinating counsel for all of its Hurricane Katrina claims. Sedgwick developed a comprehensive plan for dealing with Hurricane Katrina claims, and has established relationships with various experts and consultants whose assistance will likely be necessary to successfully resolve similar claims.
