Press Release - Leading Insurance Attorneys Synthesize Important Changes to California Fair Clams Settlement Regulations in Newly-Released Handbook

January 2007

Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold LLP announced that its Insurance Industry Team has released a handbook outlining the recently revised California Fair Clams Settlement Regulations.

"Insurers and licensees need a simple and comprehensive explanation of how the newly revised regulations will impact their business and affect their claims process," said Marilyn Klinger, one of the handbooks co-editors and head of the firm's Surety Practice Group.

"Rather than spend an immeasurable amount of time and frustration poring over the new regulations, our clients will be able to use this resource to quickly digest the information and ensure their businesses are in compliance," added the handbook's other co-editor, Partner Bruce Celebrezze

The California Fair Claims Settlement Practices Regulations have been in existence since 1993, but they were significantly changed at the end of 2006.  Attorneys from Sedgwick's three California offices created the handbook to make the process of understanding and complying with the regulations as easy as possible, and to protect the firm's clients from severe penalties as a result of market conduct surveys or complaints from individual claimants.
