Plaintiff v. Motorcycle Component Manufacturer

October 2005

Sedgwick's New York office secured summary judgment dismissal of our client from a $10 million products liability suit.  Injured in a motorcycle accident, plaintiff filed this action against the motorcycle manufacturer and several makers of the vehicle's component parts.  Prior to discovery, Sedgwick brought a motion for summary judgment on grounds that the court lacked personal jurisdiction since our component-manufacturer client is a non-U.S. entity with no business or operations in New York and no contacts with the state.  The court granted our motion, dismissed our client and denied plaintiff’s request for jurisdictional discovery.
