News Station v. Police Department
May 2010
Sedgwick favorably negotiated a resolution on behalf of our client, a television news station. Our client hired Sedgwick after a Texas police department issued a press release complaining about our client’s coverage of the discovery of a body near a gay nightclub. The release alleged that the coverage was “unethical,” named the wrong reporter and threatened to cut off our client’s access to the police department’s media portal. Sedgwick prepared a demand letter within 24 hours of receiving the matter, briefing all points on both the access and potential defamation issues. Within a week, the police department issued a retraction and apology and guaranteed future access to the media portal.
