For more than 15 years, Roberta Benson has represented the interests of foreign and domestic insurers in U.S. courts, with an emphasis on policies underwritten at Lloyd’s. Ms. Benson’s practice includes the representation of insurers as coverage counsel, monitoring counsel, and insurance defense counsel in select cases. Ms. Benson regularly represents insurers in arbitrations and litigation both in federal and state courts nationwide – recently prevailing, for example, in a summary judgment motion on behalf of Certain Underwriters in federal court in Colorado in a coverage case of first impression under Colorado law.

Her practice runs the gamut from professional liability/errors & omissions coverage, directors & officers coverage, financial institutions, and crime bond to property & casualty and comprehensive general liability coverage. Ms. Benson specializes in providing efficient and innovative service to sophisticated clients for whom litigation is the “ordinary course” of business, and who demand not just high-quality legal work but effective management tools such as accurate litigation budgets and quantitative decision models for settlement evaluations.
In addition to coverage and monitoring work, Ms. Benson continues an active trial practice in commercial litigation and in select insurance defense matters.
Affiliations, Activities and Accomplishments
Ms. Benson is admitted to practice in Texas (1993) and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. She was also honored as one of the "Most Powerful and Influential Women of Texas" by the National Diversity Council (2011).
Prior to law school, Ms. Benson served as a U.S. Air Force officer developing air and space defense systems, and then worked as a systems engineer with Hughes Helicopters and Singer/Link Filght Simulation.
