She represents Fortune 100 manufacturers of industrial and various other equipment. Her practice includes the defense of clients sued for negligence and strict products liability due to injuries sustained from allegedly defective products. She also represents clients in the toxic tort context and has extensive experience defending asbestos claims in the state of Florida as well as in the MDL in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. In addition, she has represented clients in the context of commercial disputes and has prosecuted and defended numerous breach of contract actions throughout the state of Florida.
Representative Litigation Matters
- Obtained numerous dismissals, summary judgments and other early resolution of various lawsuits.
- Obtained a dismissal in a significant products liability case in Walton County, Florida. Ms. Lawson represented a heavy equipment manufacturer in a case involving severe crush injuries to a minor child resulting from alleged poor design and inadequate warnings on vertical transportation equipment.
- Obtained summary judgment on behalf of a manufacturer involving an alleged free falling elevator in Broward County Court, Fla.
- Obtained summary judgment on behalf of a manufacturer in Raleigh, N.C.. Plaintiff, a drug manufacturer, claimed it suffered significant economic losses as a result of power failure and failure of certain power equipment supplied by client manufacturer.
- Successfully prosecuted numerous breach of contract claims on behalf of Fortune 100 company. Ms. Lawson’s client was engaged in contract disputes in connection with product installation and maintenance contracts executed throughout the state of Florida.
- Obtained an early and cost-effective resolution of a significant construction litigation matter involving more than 20 parties including the developer, general contractor, various subcontractors and their sureties due to alleged defects in construction of a condominium complex in Broward County, Fla. Successfully resolved matter in a manner that allowed client to quickly extricate itself from cumbersome litigation, avoiding significant litigation costs.
- Obtained exceptional result at mediation of a significant construction litigation matter involving more than 25 parties including the developer, general contractor, various subcontractors and their sureties due to alleged defects in a luxury condominium complex in Boca Raton, Fla.
Affiliations, Activities and Accomplishments
Ms. Lawson is admitted to the Florida, Georgia, and New Jersey Bars. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association, and the National Association of Women Lawyers.
Within Sedgwick, Ms. Lawson is Co-Chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee. She is an avid proponent of greater diversity in the profession and has spearheaded a number of firm programs aimed at increasing the pipeline of diverse lawyers as well as implemented strategies to facilitate the recruitment, retention and advancement of the firm’s diverse attorneys. Efforts undertaken by the firm’s Diversity Committee under Tanya’s leadership contributed to the firm being listed by The American Lawyer magazine as one of the top firms for diversity in 2011.
