Official Presentation Description

The New Interactions Between Payors & Providers: The Emerging Battlefield & Cost Efficiency Techniques

The relationships between providers and health plans often take on the characteristics of Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde as the parties look for ways to improve quality cost efficiently while continuing to be confronted with managed care disputes. On the litigation front, the traditional focus of managed care disputes has shifted from bodily injury claims to business practice litigation. At the same time, payors and providers are working together to explore new types of programs and plan arrangements. This panel will discuss the litigation trends and factors leading to this shift in litigation, and provide consideration as to whether the competing interests of the parties preclude them from reaching common goals of delivering quality, cost-efficient care.
