Mr. Mason acts as national and regional coordinating counsel. He is rountinely retained to represent companies who find themselves facing “bet-the-company” litigation risks. Mr. Mason has significant experience in class action litigation and other complex litigation matters. He also acts as a consultant to corporations in managing litigation and helping to minimize exposures.
Mr. Mason oversees a team of trial attorneys who work together in various specialty areas of practice. He has responsibility for hiring attorneys on a nationwide basis and working with local counsel toward successful resolution of cases. His peers in the legal community have repeatedly named him one of the “the best lawyers in Texas” in an annual survey published by Texas Monthly magazine.
Affiliations, Activities and Accomplishments
Mr. Mason is admitted to practice in Texas (1984), the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He is regularly admitted pro hac vice throughout the United States.
Mr. Mason is the past-president and a member of the Executive Committee for the Lawyers for Civil Justice (LCJ), a past-president of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC) (2007-2008) and a member of its Executive Committee. He is a former member of the board of directors for the Defense Research Institute (DRI). Mr. Mason is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a member of the American Bar Association and various industry associations. He is recognized by the Legal Media Group’s Expert Guides as one of the world’s leading lawyers in the field of Products Liability and The International Who's Who in Product Liability Defence Lawyers for 2012.
Publications
Mr. Mason is a frequent speaker on CLE subjects to broad audiences, from in-house programs to national seminars. He publishes articles on legal trends, procedural changes, and other subjects relevant to his clients, such as his article, “Products Liability Law in Japan,” which is available on www.findlaw.com.
Mr. Mason is coauthor of “State Law Challenges in Managed Care,” Chapter 4 of Managed Care Litigation (October 2005 and updated in May 2009), published by the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. (coauthored with members of Sedgwick’s Healthcare Practice Group).
